Varieties of pears.

The pear tree (scientific name Pyrus communis L.) rewards us doubly, both for its beauty and its delicious fruit. The deciduous tree that originates from countries around the Caspian Sea. After the tree is the most important deciduous fruit tree for Greek farmers. Grown mainly in Macedonia, the Peloponnese and Thessaly, in an area of approximately 45,000 square meters and an average annual production of 80,000 tons of pears.

Apart from the taste, the crust color and ripening time, pears differ in their duration of maintenance in the refrigerator, and in their resistance to the bacterium Erwinia amylovora, which can be very serious.

Varieties of nurseries

ABATE FETEL - large fruit, striking, bell and sweet. Matures around 30/8 until first week of September. It recommended expansion as there is demand for this variety in Greece and Europe.

HIGHLAND - large fruit, yellow, to blush slightly, with sweet taste and good maintenance.

SANTA MARIA - it is a variety which is gaining the interest of the producer because of the age of maturity (3rd ten days of July) and the grain size. The other characteristics of the fruit is not remarkable (taste).

WILLIAMS - unremarkable, greenish fruit, taste good, very good and compote / juice, end of August. There is the red version of the variety RedBartlett.

KONTULA - green red, small fruit, very aromatic and tasty but sensitive to the bacterium, for a premium, end of June).

COSIA - chartreuse and red light where you see the sun, small fruit, not maintained very tasty and juicy.

KRYSTALLIA - chartreuse, large fruit, matures early August, maintained for a long time
